Welcome to the ninth edition of my Every Day Stack Updates.
I got a real watch, went all in on Proton, and really need to update the picture above I use for these posts as it is only the phone in it that is still the same.
Off we go.

-
Tastily: Not long after I posted the previous EDS update Tastily decided to go out of business. Mildly annoying, but they recommended an alternative which I like (more on that later).
-
Spark: By far my favourite email client ever, but after a bit of a consolidation phase I no longer have a need for it.
-
PrivadoVPN: I’ve never really posted about which VPN service I use as they are all pretty much interchangeable in my mind and since the Netflix VPN crackdown a few years ago they all seem pretty terrible for actually watching things outside of your geo region. It did the job of making me less paranoid while on hotel/airport wifi.
-
KeeWeb & Strongbox: Two KeyPass alternative clients for desktops and iOS respectively. I liked both of them, but again, we’re consolidating and removing apps in the middle I have to trust.
-
Apple Watch Series 7: 😱. I know. I will still use it for workouts, possibly sleep tracking, and as a travel watch depending on the destination. But for the foreseeable future, it won’t be my daily driver.

-
Simmer: A Tastily prepared meal delivery service alternative. So far the meals have been much tastier and also I like the cardboard-based packaging better, so far highly recommended. Again, I’ll add my referral link as we both can get some cheaper food if you want to check it out. No pressure.
-
Proton Mail: Yes I know there is no private email, but I’m reducing middlemen so to speak and when it comes to email Proton is the gold standard. Migrating my private domains over without losing any emails in the process was super quick and easy. So far I really like their email service. The only thing I miss from Spark is snoozing email which currently can only be done from the Proton Mail web app. Although I don’t have that many snoozed emails (currently 3) so can manage that inconvenience with a label for the time being until it gets added to the mobile apps. Otherwise the app is fantastic.
-
Proton VPN: I am actually surprised with how good it is. You know how I said above Netflix never seemed to work smoothly while on a VPN (at least in my experience)? Well with this it still works flawlessly, so I see that as a surprising bonus. Again, gold standard when it comes to a VPN service otherwise.
-
Proton Pass: First time I’ve used an online password manager for my personal passwords as I don’t trust any of the other password management companies. I’m not entirely convinced it’s not a matter of time until this one gets hacked in some way too, but at least I think I can trust Proton to be transparent with that quickly. Time will tell. It’s their newest product so still a lot of features to be added (mainly a Safari browser extension) but the iOS apps and web app works smoothly enough so overall I’m happy to be along for the ride. I’m intrigued with their included 2FA code generation feature as currently, the four million codes in my Google and Microsoft authenticators aren’t a fun thing to navigate.
-
Omega Moonwatch: All I can say is 🤤🤤🤤. I don’t remember when I first discovered it being a thing, but ever since then, I’ve wanted one. I would guess it was at least 10 years ago.
Proving grounds
- Libby: Listening to some free audiobooks digitally loaned from my local library. No complaints so far.
That’s all for now, see you in three months, maybe.
Thanks for stopping by.
